Traceroute is built by one person: Matt. His background, why this exists, what he promises about your data, and how to reach him.
Matt's worn a lot of hats, but mostly identifies as a software engineer. He's spent a lot of time building and maintaining compute infrastructure for companies that hold sensitive data in highly-regulated environments. You could kinda say that's his thing. You could also say that he has too many projects and needs to spend more time outside.
He is also Traceroute's first user; all of it was built because he wanted it himself.
Why this exists
How do actors and movie stars and athletes get into shape? They have whole teams of people who measure everything and tell them what to do. I can't get teams of people, but I can measure most of those same things and my AI agent can stand in for most of those people.
Matt, on why he started building Traceroute
Like a lot of people, Matt's struggled with his weight for pretty much the entirety of his adult life. It's a tired, cliched story — "he tried all the things until he found the thing that worked." The thing that worked was obeying the laws of thermodynamics. Eat less, eat better, move more — boring stuff, but the real challenge is in knowing what "less", and "better", and "more" are, in the moment, with specificity, every day. It's a moving target, and our bodies are complex systems. Complex systems need strong observability mechanisms in order to make decisions focused on data, not vibes. Building a health-focused observability platform was Matt's way of treating his health like an engineering project. It's working for him. He hopes it will help you, too.
What he commits to
Nothing about your record is ever rented to an advertiser. No ad network goes near it.
Your data is not sold, brokered or traded — not as rows, not as aggregates.
Ask and your record is deleted from the live database within the hour. Backups holding it expire on their own schedule.
The code holding your health data is code you are allowed to read.
This isn't his first rodeo. Backups run nightly and restores get rehearsed, not assumed. Monitoring and alerting are wired up, and the pager goes to him.
